Ground Condition Assessment and ATES Prefeasibility Study 2020-2021
Columbus, Ohio
Underground Energy performed an assessment of hydrogeologic conditions at a confidential location in Columbus, Ohio and developed an ATES feasibility study for a proposed new recreational facility. UE identified two aquifer systems at this site, in shallow glacial deposits and in a deeper bedrock carbonate aquifer. UE developed estimates of aquifer hydraulic properties and used estimated thermal loads provided by the owner to conceptually size and lay out a 2.5 MW ATES heating and cooling system. The study concluded that ATES would reduce CO2 emissions and primary energy use by 81% compared to conventional boilers and electric chillers.
